We have defined these areas of interest to be;
- using technology for quality teaching and learning
- feedback and communication
- balance in life
- professional development
- student centred learning
- student centred caring environment
The first major milestone is for each of our 6 groups to present a rational and means to make 1 change to the school environment. I'm a member of the "using technology..." group. Our recommendation; to provide a ceiling mounted data projector in each teaching space over the next 2/3 years. We currently have 18 teaching spaces with projectors but will need another 20 or so projectors to fulfill our goal.
I had an idea that the 18 projectors were a useful step but many of the teachers disagreed. For them the issue was they could not be certain they would be working in the same classroom from year to year - if they were to develop an electronically based resource for their classes could they be certain they would be using these resources the following year. Rather than continue to spread hardware around the school there was an arguement for completely equiping one or more subject areas so the teachers had some certainty the hardware would be available to them.
The MOE has done a great job of negotiating a price, with a range of suppliers, for data projectors but they still seem to cost about $4000 installed. The cost is roughly split 3 ways - the projector, the wiring of data and power, and curtains.
What we will use these tools for is still under discussion. There is a tension between using a new tool to do old things more efficiently and using a new tool to do new things. Either way, the prerequisite is the data projector.

This sounds like a good idea as long as you remember the curtains. Some classrooms at bayfield really need curtains, especially Mrs. Atleys room. At some parts of our film study last year, we were forced to listen to Forrest Gump with barely any video because the glare from the curtain-less windows was too bright.
Personally, I think that more Projectors would be a good Idea as then teaching could be done Electronically and Wasting less paper.
Also Every class I am im that uses Projectors is alot easyer and faster to get the work done.
I think its the way of the future. A jolly good idea. To be with the play you have got to err well play the play.
Bringing in the new data projector smart board things is a good idea. i like the idea of them being used in class and i find it much easier to learn with rather than the teacher doing it on the normal white board.
One thing that i think really needs to be addressed is the out of date computers which are still in everyday use. Computers in the library and and in those little rooms are no where near up to standards and it has happened to me countless times that the computer has crashed or my work freezes or i just lose everything due to no fault of my own. This even happened to me at the end of year exams last year and only had 10 mins left to start again when i had spent the last hour doing it. New computers need to be brought in, maybe not top of the line things but at least something that can run Mcirosoft Word and applications such as Photoshop.
More Projecters = great idea because its an easier way to copy notes and a faster way to learn.
Viva la Moustache.
As a pupil at this school i feel that this idea is superb and has many advantages such as better and faster learning.
Just teaching fools some basic rules

The school classrooms really need curtains.
i think that projecters are a good idea because it makes learning easier and the school classes need curtains.
I think it would be a good idea, it would be faster to learn, but curtains would also be a good idea.
it's good to see that great efforts are being made into modernising the school but the teachers also need to be trained in the use of the hardware and software as at the moment it can take a considerable amount of time for some of the teachers to setup and start using the hardware, so having them perminantly installed into a classroom with the teacher only having to plug their laptop into it would b a considerable advantage.
data projectors are good useful peices of hardware for showing videos and tacking notes off especally if the teachers handwrting is not the neatest.
it would also be good if the school (or several schools) struck a deal with a pc manufacturer and were able to get laptops cheaply for the students it would help with note taking and revision because the notes would be neat, stored in a safe place and easily accessable. it would also make it easier for students who have missed periods to retreive notes off fellow studets or the teacher as they could just be emailed.
